TO:

FROM:

SUBJECT:
Fringe Benefit Rates for July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018
The following fringe benefit rates will become effective July 1, 2017 for UW-Madison and UW-Extension, and will be used when charging the employer's contribution to fringe benefits on all new and on-going extramural projects.
UW-Madison Regular Faculty and Academic Staff | 35.0% |
UW-Madison University Staff and UW-Extension Permanent Staff (Faculty, Academic Staff, and University Staff) | 44.6% |
Research Associates and Grad Interns | 22.2% |
Research Assistants, Project Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Pre-Doc Fellows and/or Trainees | 23.0% |
Post-Doc Fellows and/or Trainees | 16.5% |
Limited Term Employees (LTEs) | 8.6% |
Ad Hoc Program Specialists, Undergraduate Assistants and Undergraduate Interns | 6.0% |
Student Hourly Employees | 3.2% |
Rates are based on the actual costs of benefits paid during the fiscal year July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016. The decreases in the rates are due to DHHS' required methodology for handling of previous years' under- or over- recovery of actual costs. This method has reducted the University's ability to smooth out the impact of changes to health insurance and retirement over longer periods of time.
The specific components for each rate are detailed in a schedule that has been published at: https://rsp.wisc.edu/chap4/rn/rn17-1t.html.
We appreciate your assistance in assuring that all projects with an anticipated beginning date of July 1, 2017 or later utilize the above rates.
