The following fringe benefit rates will become effective July 1, 2019 for UW-Madison and will be used when charging the employer's contribution to fringe benefits on all new and on-going extramural projects. These rates will also be used for those former UW-Extension units which have been transferred to UW-Madison and UW System.
Regular Faculty and Academic Staff | 35.0% |
University Staff | 43.5% |
Research Associates and Grad Interns | 18.9% |
Research Assistants, Project Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Pre-Doc Fellows and/or Trainees | 19.9% |
Post-Doc Fellows and/or Trainees | 11.8% |
Limited Term Employees (LTE's) | 11.7% |
Ad Hoc Program Specialists, Undergraduate Assistants and Undergraduate Interns | 7.7% |
Student Hourly Employees | 2.9% |
Rates are based on the actual costs of benefits paid during the fiscal year July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018. The increases in the rates reflect increased University costs for health insurance and retirement. DHHS’ required methodology for the handling of previous years’ under- or over-recovery of actual costs reduces the University’s ability to smooth out the impact of changes to health insurance and retirement over longer periods of time. As a result, we are unable to predict the direction of rates after June 30, 2020.
The specific components for each rate are detailed in a schedule that has been published at: https://rsp.wisc.edu/chap4/rn/rn19-2t.cfm
We appreciate your assistance in assuring that all projects with an anticipated beginning date of July 1, 2019 or later utilize the above rates.
