TO:
Deans, Directors, Department Chairs, and Department Administrators (for distribution to all Faculty)
FROM:
Kurt McMillen, Interim Associate Vice Chancellor
SUBJECT:
Fringe Benefit Rates for July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025

The following fringe benefit rates are effective for the period beginning July 1, 2024 for the University of Wisconsin–Madison and will be used when charging the employer’s contribution to fringe benefits on all new and ongoing extramural projects. The rates will also be used for the former UW-Extension units which have been transferred to the Universities of Wisconsin.

Regular Faculty and Academic Staff 34.3%
University Staff 38.5%
Research Associates and Grad Interns 18.9%
Research Assistants, Project Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Pre-Doc Fellows and/or Trainees 20.5%
Post-Doc Fellows and/or Trainees 16.2%
Limited Term Employees (LTE's) 10.5%
Ad Hoc Program Specialists, Undergraduate Assistants and Undergraduate Interns 5.0%
Student Hourly Employees 3.2%

Rates are based on the actual costs of benefits paid during the fiscal year July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023. Increases or decreases in the rates are due to DHHS’ required methodology for the handling of previous year’s under- or over-recovery of actual costs.

The specific components for each rate are detailed in a schedule that has been published: Notice 25-1t

We appreciate your assistance in assuring that all projects incorporate the above rates going forward.
