Notice 97-1
July 8, 1996

TO: Deans, Directors, and Department Chairpersons and Secretaries
(for distribution to all Faculty)
FROM: William J. Vance, Associate Director
SUBJECT: Federal Demonstration Project Update

Recently the Federal Demonstration Project (FDP) was expanded to include more Universities and Federal Agencies, and was renamed the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP). As a reminder, the FDP began in 1989 as an experiment designed to increase research productivity while at the same time reducing administrative costs by standardizing and simplifying Federal regulations which govern academic research. General Terms and Conditions were developed for the FDP, and Federal agencies were given some latitude to modify these general terms through Agency Specific Requirements.

In addition to the expansion of the FDP to include more universities and Federal agencies, the FDP General Terms and Conditions, as well as the Agency Specific Requirements were modified. Due to these modifications we have updated the original FDP Grid, which was developed to summarize required approvals and the procedures necessary to accomplish those approvals. While the FDP Grid addresses most of the features under the terms and conditions of the FDP, a complete review of the terms and conditions is still advisable.
